My Quilting

I watched my mother and my grandmother turn fabric samples into ulitarian quilts as a girl in England. My own children have no memory of blankets, except the single blanket given to each of the younger five by their Grandmother Strebel. Most of the quilts I have made are "comforters" - made of sturdy fabrics and tied with yarn - quilts intended for children to be lived with and used. I am being more adventurous now.

I belong to an online quilting bee called "LooseThreads" (loosethread@groups.yahoo.com) and have been a member of an applique list sponsored by the ladies at Quilt Creations in France. I was a founding member of The Applique Society

I have been collecting feedsacks and other vintage fabrics and making small quilts with them by hand. I also have a small collection of vintage quilt tops and quilts, mostly rescued from eBay.

One of my first big finished projects is a combination applique and pieced quilt - The RUTH quilt made for my dear friend, Ruth Lloyd.

This Amish-style Sunshine and Shadows was my first pieced quilt top. Krys and I finished it for my mother. The qulting design on the sashing was done with sport yarn - my mom likes to sit on her quilts and yarn doesn't "pop"!

This quilt was made for a friend's grandson. Krys suggested the primary colored star points to go with the trucks.

Fall 1999 I took part in a Hawaiian block swap engineered by my daughter Krystal. Here are the six 22 inch blocks I created:
